About Us

TEJAVIS, Community Based Initiative Trust was established in 2019 by a group of four Trustees in Thika, Kiambu County in the Republic of Kenya. The organization is governed by a team drawn from diverse professional backgrounds. Together, the team is committed to empowering local communities to actively address community problems, while fostering a culture of responsible citizenship and sustainable development.

The trust has an operational office in Thika town, Kitamayu House 1st floor Uhuru Street room no. 3.  It is a private entity registered by The Trustee (Perpetual Succession) Act  Cap 164 , Laws of Kenya as an equal share trust operating within the boundaries of the Republic of Kenya. It was registered in 2025 but has been in operational since 2019 focusing on community problems such as child protection, women empowerment, family strengthening, persons with disability inclusivity, addressing climate change and general community empowerment. This led to the establishment of the trust and in the same notion to much successes that is attributed to the same. Notably the professional back ground of the trustees has a common back ground of community orientation for its formation.

Rights-Based and Child Participation Approach

Promotes children’s rights as outlined in national and international frameworks, ensuring they are recognized as rights-holders and active participants in decisions affecting their lives.

Engages families, local leaders, and communities in child protection efforts while ensuring inclusivity of all genders, abilities, and marginalized groups.

TEJAVIS collaborates  with  various  stakeholders,  including  Governmental agencies,  County  Government,  National   Government, International  and National NGOs, FBOs, Local Authorities, Academic Institutions, and Community Groups. These partnerships strengthen our efforts in environmental conservation, climate change resilience, and civic education while amplifying community voices at national and global forums.

Our Programs / Activities

Child Safeguarding Program

Focusing on child protection initiatives: Raising awareness on children’s rights, best practices and success stories, Fostering collaboration among stakeholders, Education and Child Development, Health and well-being of the child.

Women Empowerment Programs

Focusing on the teenage girls, teenage mothers, and elderly women: for mentorship support; enhanced health and well- being; improved livelihood for economic stability; increased access to education, life skills and personal growth opportunities; economic empowerment – microfinance, entrepreneurship, and livelihood support, financial literacy.

Family Strengthening and Positive Parenting Prigrams

Focusing on behavior change and self-awareness skills, positive parenting, family communication and bonding, conflict resolution and management, child development and behavior management.

Capacity Building Programs

Provide life skills training, Education and Personal Development, Entrepreneurial skills, Health and Hygiene, Social Protection.

Economic Empowerment Programs

Mainly for vulnerable communities aimed at improving livelihoods and reducing poverty; Vocational Training, Microfinance, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy and Livelihood support.

Psycho-social Support and Trauma Recovery Services

Objective: To provide mental health and emotional support to children affected by trauma.
Key Activities:

  • Set up child-friendly safe spaces for emotional recovery.
  • Offer individual and group counseling to children and caregivers.
  • Train community counselors and social workers.
  • Integrate psycho-social support into school and community programs.
School-Based Protection Program

Objective: To create inclusive, child-friendly, and safe learning environments.
Key Activities:

  • Train teachers and school staff on child protection, early identification, and referral.
  • Implement anti-bullying and child safety policies in schools.
  • Establish child protection clubs and reporting mechanisms in schools.
  • Integrate feeding programs to support vulnerable learners.
Child Labor and Exploitation Prevention Program

Objective: To eliminate child labor and reintegrate affected children into safe environments.
Key Activities:

  • Identify children involved in hazardous or exploitative labor.
  • Withdraw and reintegrate children into schools or vocational programs.
  • Provide economic support to families (e.g., business training, cash transfers).
  • Partner with government agencies for enforcement and rehabilitation.
Digital Safety and Online Protection Program

Objective: To protect children from online risks and promote safe digital engagement.
Key Activities:

  • Conduct digital safety training for children, parents, and educators.
  • Distribute digital literacy materials and safe internet guides.
  • Raise awareness on cyber bullying, grooming, and exploitation.
  • Collaborate with ICT firms and authorities to monitor and report online threats.
Emergency Child Protection Program

Objective: To protect children during crises such as natural disasters, conflict, or displacement.
Key Activities:

  • Establish temporary child-friendly spaces in emergency settings.
  • Provide emergency psychosocial support and basic needs assistance.
  • Conduct family tracing and reunification for separated children.
  • Coordinate with humanitarian partners to integrate child protection in all responses.
